SOLAR PROJECT

CONSTRUCTION OF 38KV SUBSTATION

Main Contractor: Jones Engineering

Duration: 14 months

ESK takes great pride in a significant endeavor in the Irish renewable energy initiative. This project features a cutting-edge 24MWdc solar farm spanning 80 acres. The project’s impressive output translates to providing the energy needs of 5,063 homes annually.

ESK was responsible for constructing a 38kV substation on the perimeter of the solar farm, as well as a 300m transmission line which links this clean energy to the grid. This undertaking underscores our unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable energy solutions by constructing the essential infrastructure pivotal for transitioning to a green future.

Scope of Works

  • Set Up of Work Area
  • Widening of Farm Entrance Gateway
  • Widening of Existing Farm Roadway
  • Construction of New Roadway to Substation
  • Construction of Substation and associated bunds and plinths
  • Installation of Precast slabs
  • Construction of substation blockwork

ADDITIONAL ENERGY AND RENEWABLES PROJECTS

  • In 2021, ESK successfully completed the installation of a new 38KVA station in New Ross for ESB, in collaboration with Gaeltec Utilities. This new station replaced the old facility, enhancing the town’s electrical infrastructure.
  • This year, ESK has constructed 12 electricity pylons for both private and public entities on the national grid. These pylons facilitate the connection of new sub-stations to the grid, with all sub-structure work carried out safely beneath live overhead lines and within strict height restrictions.
  • Additionally, ESK has completed significant projects at Meta’s substation and in Lisheen, where we undertook civil engineering works for the 110KVA station in 2022. This project included subdividing the station to accommodate future connections.
